As we join together this weekend, we honor the ones who have joined us along our journey of life. The first of November is the celebration of All Saints in the Christian calendar, and is a part of the celebration of Dia de Los Muertos in the custom of Mexico. Diwali in the Hindu tradition is held at this time of year, and Samhein is honored in the Celtic tradition.
For some, it is a celebration of light over darkness. For others, this is the start of a brand new year. Still others connect with their ancestors and relations through a feast, an ofredna, lighting of candles, sharing stories and singing songs.
For us in the Taproot Community, this is a time to remember those who have been helpers along our journey of life. And it is a time to consider how we also might become compassionate helpmates to those who are in need of a companion or friend. Connecting together helps us with Finding our Way in the World.
In our family-friendly gathering, we will read stories about Jacob seeing visions of a beautiful ladder when he thought he was all alone in the desert. We will remember a special time when the disciples asked Jesus how to pray, and he taught them how to listen while they all sat under a fig tree. Together, we will consider how Creator speaks to us through nature, and how the natural world can help us to remember who we are.
A reading by Randy Woodley will be shared, as we consider who we are related to - both human, and other-than-human, beings. We share the Land Acknowledgement that is offered to us by the Camp and Retreat Ministries, which Camp Magruder, our host, is a part of. And then we will respond with our own stories before we go outdoors and walk the labyrinth nearby. Communion will be shared, and we will sing together along our journey. And then we will bless one another for the time we then spend in our neighborhoods and homes.
We hope you will be able to join us! You'll want to bring a tablet or smart phone to follow along in our Worship Outline for 3 November Taproot Gathering.
Remember to "Fall Back" this evening, or first thing in the morning. May the "extra hour" be one of restfulness and heart-felt connections.
We look forward to sharing time together with you!
And if you cannot join us in person, you can always light a candle at home, or go for a walk in nature around the same time we gather. In this way, we will be connected in spirit.
Blessings to you, until we meet again!
